Latino Visions Exhibit Opens in Eugene Oregon

"Entering the gallery is like entering a collective memory of thoughts, colors, shapes, icons, stories, and histories that we somehow share. It is magical," says Analee Fuentes, curator of the new exhibit, Latino Visions, opening today in Eugene, Oregon. Latino artists that live and contribute to the cultural tapestry of the Northwest, are exhibiting original paintings and photographs at the Jacobs Gallery in the Hult Center.

Red Easel: A Studio Full of Artistic Inspiration was begun out of the necessity to find information for visual artists on the web without having hundreds of bookmarks to search through and a million pages in Google. Mary Susan Vaughn, a professional visual artist, has spent hours on her computer searching for framers, appraisers, artist information, art history, art instruction, art supplies, art books, artist organizations, workshops, art festivals, and the list goes on and on. It seemed as if every day she was searching for something relevant to visual artists. It became a daunting task. Inspired by a friend, Liz Sorenson, whose baby blog and business, The Daily Stroll, is extremely successful, Susan decided to start Red Easel, applying much of what she learned from her friend's business of babies and applying it to the art business. Her blog and Studio of Artistic Inspiration begins its journey in 2007 and she has high hopes for its creative future.

St. Charles Hospital Exhibits Acosta's Oils

St. Charles Hospital in Bend, Oregon. For the months of March/April in the upstairs cafeteria gallery area, the exhibit of Cristina Acosta's original oil paintings, including her Animal Spirit series and pieces from her Hispanic Culture series. Marlene Alexander is the developer, curator and director of this very successful arts program.

The Business Journal of Hispanic Research Features Acosta!

A bi-annual publication of the National Society of Hispanic MBAs, The Business Journal of Hispanic Research is a peer reviewed publishing outlet for business research on Hispanics intended for professional development purposes. Edward Cabello of Cabello Associates curates the artwork that appears in the publication and included two paintings from Cristina's Hispanic Culture series for the Dec. 2007, Volume 1, Issue 2 released in early 2008.

Residents are generous with their time and money to support a variety of cultural and educational opportunities for the residents and visitors. Acting Sweet in this Anti-Corn Syrup Ad

High Fructose Corn Syrup is getting a bad rap for all of the havoc it's been making in the Standard American Diet. Bringing the message to kids with a big dose of fun is Elliot Sawyer. Elliot produced, directed and acted in this sarcastic corn syrup ad he titled Anti-Nutri Funnel. Also starring are Judy Shasek (the friend), Isabella Barna (the kid)and Cristina Acosta (the mom).

Onda Arte Latina Group Exhibit

Allan Oliver, owner and curator for the gallery has organized a group show including selected work from the past five years of Onda Arte Latina Gallery artists. Located on Alberta Street in Portland, Oregon, the gallery is devoted to exhibiting Hispanic artists from around the world.

Celebrating Mother's Day - My Grandmother's Story

In the early 1920's my grandmother Catalina Maria Ortiz Acosta and her family, living in Los Angeles, befriended the lyricist Charles O. Roos and his wife, the composer Jaunita E. Roos. They were part of the "Indianist" movement in music. Catalina (1904-1991) was then a twenty year old classical pianist and the featured pianist at concerts the Roos organized. My grandmother spoke with admiration regarding Juanita's musical abilities. The concert program for the event at the Ramona Convent in Alhambra, California illustrates the typical concert Roos organized. Sifting through my Grandmother's photo albums I found several photos of Charles and Juanita and publicity photos for the Ramona Convent event...
